One of the funnest courses I've ever played. Lava is a feature of the course, but doesn't dominate it. Great views. Typical Nicklaus -- lots of room to the right, but worse angles into heavily bunkered greens from the bailouts. 17 is a shot to the ocean with a green tucked into a lava field. They don't allow public play, so you really get the country club experience. 15 minutes between tee times and great practice facilities. Conditions were immaculate and service was very friendly. Free beverage cart (drinks and homemade cookies)! Yes, free! Only minor complaint was that the first tee time was at 7am and that the first non-resident tee time was 7:45am. Showed up at 6:30 to find the pro shop dark. If they would have sent me out, could have been done by 9. Had zero effect on my round though. Played as a twosome with a nice guy from LA and finished in 3 hours flat.
